I feel like this was self contained in a good way, with no filler as others have pointed out. The action was definitely the best I've seen from a Transformers cartoon (no disrespect to the awesome 80s movie which had more all out battle scenes). A lot of the action is 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 fights. Character design was on point - basically i liked the animation, thought it was clean (not cheap like some 3D of the kid's series'), and modern. I particularly loved that generation 1 Transformers were used. It was a delight to see the original Optimus and Megatron in the action again along with Devistator and Starscream. The plot was, meh, fairly good.

The brevity of this did not make it feel (even when combined (no pun intended)) like a movie, but nor did it feel like an episode. When matched with part two, however (which is not on Amazon as of this writing) it did feel like a movie. If one is not familiar with the back story (as I was not) there is just enough given in a few flashbacks to help you understand the basics. The Japanese anime excessive use of grunts, screams and dramatic pauses was annoying.
